How to delete your Cupboardful account
Last updated: 9 September 2026
Cupboardful is operated by Alex Bannister, trading as Cupboardful. This page explains how to delete your account or your data, what is removed when you do, and what is kept. It applies to the Cupboardful web app and the Cupboardful apps for iOS and Android.
Delete your account in the app
Deleting your account is immediate and cannot be undone.
In the web app:
- Sign in at app.cupboardful.com and open Settings.
- In the Account section, scroll to Danger zone and choose Delete account.
- Type DELETE (or your email address) to confirm. If you sign in with a password, enter your current password as well. Accounts that sign in only with Google or Apple have no password and are not asked for one.
- Choose Delete account.
In the iOS and Android apps:
- Open the Settings tab.
- Scroll to Delete account and tap Delete account.
- Type DELETE (or your email address) to confirm and, if your account has a password, enter it.
- Tap Delete account. You need an internet connection for this step.
If you are in a Duo or Family household, you need to leave it first: in the web app, Settings, Family, Leave family. If you own the household, transfer ownership to another member or dissolve the household first. Deleting your account removes only your own data; the household keeps its shared recipes, shopping list and meal plan.
If you have a paid subscription, cancel it first in Settings, Billing, Manage billing. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription that is still running.
If you cannot sign in
Email privacy@cupboardful.com from the email address on your account and ask us to delete it. We confirm the request by replying to that address, then delete the account. We cannot act on a request sent from a different address, because the account email is how we know the request is yours. Please do not send your password.
Delete your data without deleting your account
You can remove any of the following from within the app, and the change syncs to your other devices:
- Recipes, including their ingredients, steps, tags, ratings, cook history and photo: delete the recipe.
- A recipe photo on its own: open the recipe for editing and remove the photo (web app).
- Shopping list items: delete an item, or use Clear checked.
- Meal plan entries, queue items and ideas: remove them from the Plan tab.
- API keys: revoke them in Settings, API Keys.
- Google or Apple sign-in links: unlink them in Settings, Account, Linked accounts (web app). You cannot unlink the only way you have of signing in.
What is deleted when you delete your account
Everything the account owns is deleted at the moment you confirm:
- Your account record: email address, display name, password hash, email-verification state and preferences.
- All recipes with their ingredients, steps, sections, tags, ratings, notes and cook history.
- Every photo you uploaded, which is removed from our file storage.
- Your shopping list and purchase preferences.
- Your meal plan: calendar entries, the queue, ideas and idea categories.
- API keys, sign-in sessions, password-reset and verification links, and any linked Google or Apple sign-in.
- Two-factor authentication settings, recovery codes and trusted devices.
- Your subscription record with us (see below for what Stripe keeps).
- Records of recipes imported from video links.
- The change log used to sync the mobile app.
What is kept, and for how long
- Billing records. Our payment processor, Stripe, keeps records of payments and invoices for as long as tax and accounting law requires. Cupboardful never sees or stores your card details; the customer record Stripe holds includes your email address. Stripe's handling of that data is described in the Stripe Privacy Policy.
- Backups. Our database is backed up automatically. A deleted account can remain in those backups for a short period before they are overwritten in the ordinary course of operations. Backups are never used to restore an individual account.
- Server logs. Our servers keep short-lived technical logs of requests (IP address, endpoint, response time) for security and fault diagnosis. These are kept briefly and are not used to identify you after deletion.
- Error reports. Backend error reports may be sent to Sentry with personal details scrubbed; they are retained only as long as useful for diagnosing issues.
- Email delivery records. Transactional emails (verification, password reset, household invitations) are sent through Resend, which keeps delivery logs under its own retention policy.
- Household invitations. If someone invited you to their Duo or Family household, that invitation, which holds your email address, stays with their household until it expires (7 days) or they withdraw it.
- Internal audit records. If we ever took an administrative action on your account (for example extending a trial), the record of that action is kept. It refers to the account by an internal identifier only.
Accounts that are never verified
If you register with an email address and password and never confirm your email, we send one reminder and then delete the account automatically, no sooner than 30 days after registration. This only happens to an account that holds no recipe, no linked Google or Apple sign-in, no household membership and no paid subscription; an unverified account holding any of those is never deleted this way.
